Don’t let your heart be troubled
John 14:1
CONTEXT: The scene continues in the upper room where the disciples had gathered with Jesus before He was arrested. Judas had been dismissed (John 13:30), and Jesus had begun His farewell address to the remaining 11 disciples. The world of the disciples was about to be shattered. They would be bewildered, fearful, and confused by the events that would soon transpire. Anticipating their emotional turmoil, Jesus spoke to comfort their hearts.
“The disciples were completely bewildered and discouraged. Jesus had said He was going away.
“Don’t be worried!” “Set your mind at ease.”

Troubled
Troubled means shaking back and forth, and therefore to agitate and stir up.
To shake together, stir up, disturb, unsettle, throw into disorder
Most of the NT uses of troubled are figurative and describe the state of one’s mind as stirred up, agitated, or experiencing inward commotion
Believe
Jesus instructs them to continue believing in God and in Him after His departure. The answer to confusion is not a formula, but a relationship with Jesus. Though the disciples believed, their faith faltered in challenging moments.
